Even though Shirley ate well and kept active, she reached a point where she felt stuck. Hearing more people talk about weight loss medication and meeting someone who shared their own experience, encouraged her to look into a new option. Before starting, Shirley visited her GP for a full health check and blood tests so she felt confident. Then she began using Mounjaro and chose to take a steady, measured approach from the start.
Taking a low and slow approach
Shirley has always been realistic about what the medication can do. She never expected miracles and understood it would work best when combined with healthy habits. In addition her approach has been to stay on the lowest doses all the while they were having a good effect.
Progress so far
Since starting treatment, Shirley has lost an incredible 21 kilos. She feels lighter, more energetic and noticeably healthier. She describes the biggest change as simply feeling better in her body.
Walking is easier, her joints feel less strained and she has more stamina for daily life. She swims regularly, takes part in aquarobics and already lived an active lifestyle, but now finds it easier to keep up with everything she enjoys. She has also updated her wardrobe and feels more confident socially, whether she is away with friends or out day to day.

What has changed for Shirley
Shirley feels less pressure on her joints and finds walking more comfortable. Her energy levels are better than before, making everyday activities easier.
She now naturally drinks less. One or two drinks feel enough and she no longer enjoys drinking on consecutive days. She has become more aware of how alcohol affects how she feels and how well the medication works and makes more mindful choices as a result.
Support from her Health Coach
When Shirley recently hit a plateau, she booked a session with a CheqUp Health Coach. The advice she received around protein, nutrition and small adjustments helped her get back on track. She describes the support as brilliant and values having someone to guide her through any challenges.
Looking ahead
Shirley still hopes to lose another six kilos before a trip to Australia in a few months time. She knows she does not need to reach her smallest ever weight and is focused instead on staying healthy as she gets older.
She sees this journey as a long term investment in her wellbeing. For her, it is not about vanity but more feeling strong, preventing future health problems and enjoying life.
Shirley’s advice to others
Shirley often encourages friends and family to explore treatment safely and sensibly. Her advice is simple:
- speak to your GP first and make sure everything is safe
- take it slowly and do not rush the doses
- stay hydrated, especially before starting
- work on healthy eating and portion sizes while the medication supports you
- do not expect instant results but stay consistent
Shirley is proud of how far she has come and is motivated to keep going. She describes herself as positive by nature and feels grateful to be enjoying better health at this stage of her life.
