When Sara stepped on the scales and saw 14 and a half stone, she couldn’t believe it. She had always been naturally slim, sometimes even teased for being “too skinny”, so the sudden weight gain during menopause felt overwhelming and unfamiliar.
“I thought the scales were wrong. I didn’t recognise myself.”
Giving up smoking, hormonal changes, and shifts in appetite all contributed. Her confidence dropped, and she found herself avoiding mirrors, avoiding shopping, and avoiding going out. Clothes no longer felt right on her body, and she describes that time as a difficult, isolating headspace.
Finding support she could trust
Before joining CheqUp, Sara tried weight loss medication privately but realised she had been significantly overcharged. She began researching other options and chose CheqUp because it felt trustworthy. Her GP encouraged the decision, reassuring her that treatment was a positive step for her health and wellbeing.
She began treatment, gradually increasing her dose and later moving from Mounjaro to Wegovy. The transition settled quickly.
A year of steady progress
Almost eleven months later, Sara’s weight has come down to around 10 stone 10 pounds. She moves between 10 and a half and 11 stone, and feels comfortable there. But the biggest shift has been how she feels.
“I can look in the mirror again. Before, I’d avoid my reflection. Now I feel more like me.”
Shopping has become enjoyable again, although she still sometimes picks clothes that are too big out of habit. Seeing herself in photos has helped her recognise how far she has come.
Health improvements that changed daily life
The changes to Sara’s health have been significant.
- Her pre-diabetes has reversed.
- Her blood pressure has returned to normal.
- Her breathlessness has resolved.
- Her energy levels have risen.
“My doctor said, ‘I’ve got good news, we’ve reversed it.’ That meant everything to me.”

What she wants others to know
Sara describes herself as sceptical at first. She had tried diets and eating less, and nothing worked long term. Now, she wants others to know it is worth exploring.
She now recommends CheqUp to friends, colleagues, and family members who ask about her journey.
Looking ahead
Sara’s story is one of steady, sustainable change. She feels healthier, happier, and more confident. “I feel better inside and out,” she says. “That’s the best thing.”
“I’m living proof it works. Do your research, look at the reviews, and give it a chance.”
