Why is there liquid left at the end of my Mounjaro pen?

Customers often ask us the following question:

'There seems to be some liquid left at the end of my Mounjaro pen - after I've finished the 4 doses. I can't turn it anymore and nothing is coming out. Why is there liquid left at the end of my Mounjaro pen. Is this normal?'

The quick answer is YES - here we explain why.

Mounjaro is unusual because there is always a small amount of the liquid medication left in the vial after the end of the four doses - don’t worry, this is completely natural.

So, why is this? Why is there liqiud left at the end of the Mounjaro pen?

Before using Mounjaro, it’s important to squirt a small amount of the medication out of the needle.

This is a process called “priming” and ensures that there are no air bubbles the syringe and that the needle is full with medication. Priming means you should always receive the correct dosage and improves the accuracy and effectiveness of the injection.

The Mounjaro vial has a small amount of extra liquid to compensate for this process.

Hopefully this helps to explain the question 'why is there liquid left at the end of my Mounjaro pen'!

Should I extract the extra liquid from the Mounjaro pen?

No! Please don't try and extract the extra liquid from your Mounjaro pen. Any liquid left isn't suitable for injecting and it can be dangerous to tamper with a medical injection pen like Mounjaro.
