How to manage a missed Mounjaro or Wegovy dose safely

Missing a weekly Mounjaro or Wegovy dose is usually manageable. The safest next step depends on how long it has been since your scheduled injection day.

If you forgot to take your Mounjaro or Wegovy injection yesterday, you can usually take it as soon as you remember, as long as it is within the 5-day window from your scheduled injection day. These medicines are taken at a prescribed frequency of once a week and missed dose guidance is designed to help you return to your titration schedule safely.

If more than 5 days have passed, you should skip the missed dose and take your next injection on your normal scheduled day. This is known as dose resumption, meaning you return to your usual treatment routine rather than taking an extra dose to catch up. It follows a clinical safety protocol designed to reduce the risk of side effects, such as nausea, vomiting or stomach discomfort, by making sure doses are not taken too close together.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed Wegovy injection. If you are unsure what to do or if you have missed more than one dose, speak to your CheqUp Clinician before restarting.

What should I do if I miss my Mounjaro or Wegovy by one day?

If you missed your weekly dose by one day, you are still within the 5-day window. This means you can usually take your dose as soon as you remember.

For example, if your usual injection day is Monday and you remember on Tuesday, you can take your missed dose on Tuesday. You can then continue with your usual weekly schedule, unless your Clinician advises otherwise.

The key point is not to panic. A single missed dose does not usually mean you need to restart your treatment or change your dose.

What is the 5-day rule for a missed dose?

The 5-day rule is the standard missed-dose guidance for Mounjaro or Wegovy.

If it has been 5 days or less since your scheduled injection day, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Then continue with your next dose as usual on your scheduled day.

If it has been more than 5 days, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose on your normal injection day.

This helps prevent doses being taken too close together, which could increase the risk of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or stomach discomfort.

Should I ever take two doses together?

No. You should not take two doses together to make up for a missed injection.

Taking extra medication does not “catch up” your progress. It may increase the chance of side effects and could make your treatment harder to tolerate.

If you have missed a dose, follow the 5-day window guidance or ask your Clinician for advice.

Will missing one dose affect my weight loss progress?

Missing one dose is unlikely to undo your overall progress, especially if you get back on track safely.

However, the medication works best when taken consistently at the prescribed frequency. Missing doses regularly may make treatment less consistent and could affect appetite control, routine and long term progress.

If missed doses are becoming common, it may help to set reminders or use support tools to stay on schedule. CheqUp members can access the Weightwatchers app for free which provides automated reminders to help you manage missed doses safely.

Can I change my injection day after a missed dose?

You may be able to change your injection day but you should avoid taking doses too close together.

If you want to move your regular injection day, ask your Clinician how to do this safely. They can help you choose a new schedule that keeps your treatment consistent and reduces the risk of side effects.

For many people, choosing a fixed weekly day helps. For example, every Monday morning or every Sunday evening.

What side effects should I watch for after taking a late Mounjaro or Wegovy dose?

After taking a late Mounjaro or Wegovy dose, the side effects to watch for are generally the same as usual. Some mild digestive symptoms can happen, but severe, persistent or worsening symptoms should be checked by a Clinician.

How can I avoid missing future doses?

A missed injection is not uncommon but the aim is to make your routine easier.

Some helpful steps to mitigate this happening include:

  • Set a weekly reminder: Use your phone calendar or Weightwatchers app for reminder notifications.
  • Pair it with a routine: Link your injection to a regular habit, such as Sunday evening planning or Monday breakfast.
  • Track your injection dates: Keep a simple note of when each dose was taken.
  • Plan ahead for travel: Ask your clinician or pharmacist how to store and transport your medication safely.
  • Contact your clinician if unsure: Especially if you miss more than one dose.
