1. It is the same active ingredient, not a step down
The Wegovy Pill contains semaglutide, the same molecule as the Wegovy injection. This is not a weaker or watered-down alternative. It is the same medicine in a different form, with its own clinical profile and its own set of requirements.
2. The morning routine is non-negotiable
This is the single most important practical difference. The Wegovy Pill must be taken every morning on an empty stomach with up to 120ml of plain water, followed by a 30-minute wait before eating, drinking anything other than water, or taking other medications. If your mornings are unpredictable, this is worth thinking through carefully before switching.
3. You will not be starting from scratch
If you are already on an injectable treatment, you will not go back to the beginning. There is a clinical pathway that maps where you are now to the right starting point on the Wegovy Pill. Your Clinician will look at your current dose and treatment history and work out the equivalent starting dose for the tablet. There will still be an adjustment period as your body gets used to the new route of absorption, but this is not the same as starting over.
4. Appetite may change temporarily during the switch
Some people notice a temporary increase in appetite or a brief return of food noise during the transition. This is a physiological response, not a sign that the treatment is not working. It usually settles within a few weeks as the oral dose reaches its effective level.
5. Indigestion is more common with the tablet than the injection
The overall side effect profile is similar to the injectable, but dyspepsia (indigestion) is noticeably more frequent with the oral form. Peppermint or ginger tea, over-the-counter antacids such as Gaviscon or Rennie, or proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole can help. If it remains difficult, speak to your Clinician.
6. You cannot take both at the same time
Taking the Wegovy Pill alongside any other GLP-1 treatment, including the Wegovy injection or Mounjaro, is contraindicated. Switching means stopping the injectable. Your Clinician will advise on timing to manage the transition safely, typically a 7-day gap between the last injection and the first tablet.
7. Your renewal cycle changes
Injectable treatments at CheqUp run on a 28-day cycle. The Wegovy Pill runs on a 30-day cycle, because it comes in blister packs of 30 tablets. Worth factoring in when you think about ordering and subscription management.
8. No fridge needed
Unlike injectable GLP-1 treatments, the Wegovy Pill is stored at room temperature. No cold chain, no packing ice for travel, no worrying about keeping it refrigerated on holiday. For people who travel frequently, this can be a meaningful quality-of-life difference.
9. The absorption rule affects other medications you take in the morning
If you take other medications in the morning, the 30-minute window matters for them too. Medications with a narrow therapeutic window, need to be taken at least 30 minutes after the Wegovy Pill. If you are on these, your Clinician will advise on how to manage the timing. If you take an oral contraceptive pill, also speak to your Clinician before switching, as absorption may be affected in the early weeks.
10. The switch should always be Clinician-led
This is not a change to make on your own. Your CheqUp Clinician will review your current treatment, your progress and your health before recommending a switch. If a switch is appropriate, they will advise on starting dose and timing. And if the Wegovy Pill does not suit you, switching back to an injectable is possible. The clinical team is there throughout.
