Wegovy weight loss injections

What is Wegovy?

Wegovy is a prescription only medication taken once a week using a self-injection pen which contains four doses. It contains the active ingredient semaglutide, which mimics a GLP-1 hormone that helps regulate your appetite, blood sugar and digestion.

  • Help you feel fuller for longer by sending signals to the appetite-control centre in your brain
  • Slow down how quickly food leaves your stomach, so you stay satisfied after meals
  • Improve how your body manages blood sugar, which can help reduce cravings and energy crashes

Together, these effects can make it easier to eat less without feeling deprived, helping you lose weight in a steady, sustainable way alongside healthier lifestyle changes.

Wegovy doesn't just support weight loss, it's also been shown to reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes and cardiovascular death in adults with obesity and heart disease.

Frequently asked questions

You can read all of our FAQs here

How do GLP-1 medications work?

GLP-1 medications work in three ways:

By mimicing the body's natural GLP-1 and GIP hormones, reducing how much food you crave and eat.

Slowing the pace of stomach emptying, making you feel fuller for longer.

Reducing blood sugar levels by promoting the release of insulin.

How long before I see results?

Using weight loss medications with the support of our Health Coaches, you should expect to see results within a few weeks with notable weight loss within the first few months.

Your body will take some time to adjust to the changes but please be patient and trust the process.

Can I switch from one GLP-1 medication to another?

Yes, switching between GLP-1 medications is possible under clinical supervision. Our team manages the transition to ensure it's appropriate for your health profile. However, you must only take one weight loss medication at a time.

Do I need to be on 2.4mg for a certain amount of time before moving to 7.2mg?

Yes. With CheqUp, you need to have been stable on the 2.4mg dose for at least three months before 7.2mg can be considered as part of your programme. This allows your body time to fully adjust and helps ensure the dose change is safe and appropriate.

Who is the Wegovy 7.2mg dose for?

Wegovy 7.2mg may be considered for adults using Wegovy 2.4mg for weight loss who have tolerated the treatment well and feel their weight loss has slowed or plateaued. It is not suitable for everyone and is always considered under clinical guidance.

Can Wegovy affect my eyesight?

Health regulators have identified a very rare link between Wegovy and a condition called NAION, affecting around 1 in 10,000 people. It occurs when reduced blood flow to the optic nerve, (the nerve that connects your eye to your brain), causes sudden changes in vision. This usually affects one eye and is not painful. Symptoms can include blurred, cloudy or dimmed vision that comes on quickly. If you notice any of these changes, please seek medical advice promptly. You can contact your GP, call NHS 111 or attend urgent care.

Why are CheqUp treatments a subscription?

Weight loss medication is designed to be taken consistently over time. A subscription helps protect your progress by ensuring uninterrupted treatment as part of your personalised CheqUp programme.

Your dose is reviewed regularly by a Clinician and can be adjusted to suit your needs.

You can pause or cancel your subscription or change your payment date in your account before your next order is approved.

Potential side effects

Not everyone experiences side effects and for many people, they're mild and temporary. The most common include:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Headache
  • Tiredness
  • Appetite or taste changes

These usually improve as your body gets used to the medication. If needed, your clinical team can adjust your dose to help manage side effects.

In rare cases, Wegovy has been linked to a serious eye condition called non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION), which can cause sudden vision loss. If you notice any changes to your eyesight, contact your clinical team straight away.
